1. CREATIVITY
If your not creative then stop reading. Creativity is a must. Why? As an illustrator/designer you are always creating and generating new ideas therefore you must be creative. The industry is very competitive and they are looking for new original material which is new and eye catching... therefore is a major necessity!
2. WILLING AND PATIENCE.
You've got to have a lot of patience and also willing to do a lot of things. You have to be willing to buy the materials, wait for progress and many other things. Now you can’t call yourself a true creative genius without having the equipment and essentials that enable your artistic flair to flourish! Be sure that you have many pencils, paints, fabrics, stencils, computer software, paper, colours and pastels that bring your work to life! You never know when you might need them and be sure to buy ones of good quality.
3. Talent
People get confused on this one... this does not mean be able to draw like the best in the world because I certainly can't. I think this talent is given, not the talent to be able to draw to perfection but the talent of somehow artistically able and willing to develop. Art is something people are born with, it's a gift and can't be taught to the highest degree. The best artists don't need lessons.
That's it!
